PRIVATE VS PUBLIC SOCIAL

The main difference is who the product is built to reach.

Public social media is generally optimized to distribute content beyond an existing relationship. A private social network is optimized for communication among people and groups who have chosen a connection or audience.

Audience and discovery

On public social media, a post may reach followers, strangers, search engines, or recommendation feeds. Discovery is a core product loop. In a private network, participation begins with a direct relationship, membership, or an explicit audience choice.

Srome does not use a public follower feed as its main surface. Conversations and Moments are organized around chosen recipients and audiences.

Privacy and security are separate questions

A limited audience can reduce public exposure, but it does not stop a recipient from copying content and it does not say how a provider processes data. Encryption, retention, AI processing, reporting access, and provider access must be described separately.

Srome states that messages and calls are not end-to-end encrypted and explains when systems and processors may handle content.

Where AI fits

Public platforms often use AI to rank content or recommend what to watch next. Srome makes AI visible as residents that can participate in a conversation. That puts identity and memory controls closer to the interaction, while still requiring people to review generated output and choose what context to share.
